While technicians should consider introductory online carpet cleaning certification courses not to be adequate training, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification’s (IICRC) continuing education classes are excellent for distance learning students. Introductory classes are better handled through the IICRC’s approved instructors, which are located all over the world. Once the technician has a strong base of IICRC training, the Institute’s continuing education classes will provide the breadth of skills that define an expert.

The IICRC does not provide online carpet cleaning certification classes because it’s better for a professional to learn the basics in person and with hands-on training. Professionals that already have a strong grasp of theory don’t always need hands-on experience. Instead, these professionals are better served by courses like marketing, bookkeeping, pricing, customer service and employee training. These classes are in an online format and accessed at the technician’s convenience.

For IICRC registrants, continuing education credits (CECs) are not only helpful; they are necessary. The IICRC requires its registrants to acquire a couple CECs every year to maintain good standing. The IICRC strives to lift the industry’s general level of technical skill and service, and the best way to do this is to promote regular education of its registered professionals. These skills can also be the difference between a business that thrives and one that struggles.
