Water DamageHearing the words “water damage” is never any fun, especially if it’s unexpected. Fortunately, there are a few signs you can watch out for to detect hidden water damage in your bathroom, so you can keep it from getting worse. Some of the signs that you might have a water damage problem in your bathroom include:

  • Mold or mildew—Even if you’re diligent about cleaning your bathroom, mold from water damage can still become an issue. If you look up at your shower one day and see mold or notice that there’s mildew growing in the corner of this room, there might be a hidden water leak or another intruding moisture source in your bathroom.
  • Damaged walls or flooring—When the walls or flooring in your bathroom look like they have been warped by water, this is a clear sign that there could be a broken pipe in this room. Make sure you have a plumber come and confirm the presence of the leak as soon as possible, so your home’s structure does not incur continual damage.
  • Peeling paint or wallpaper—When moisture gets in between your walls and your paint or wallpaper, it will start to peel. This can be a sign that there is a leak or another moisture source hiding behind the walls of your bathroom. Even if you don’t see peeling, this can still be a problem if your bathroom’s walls suddenly feel spongy and soft.
